Rangers priority this summer will be to replace any departures – if we haven’t already made provisions – and add numbers to the middle of the park.

Stephen Kelly will return from his impressive loan spell at Ross County to fill the role that Bongani Zungu has been performing, unless he goes out on loan again, he has shown that he can cope with the physicality of the Premiership so another season wouldn’t do his development any harm if it means that he is getting regular games.

The biggest issue – aside from the obvious interest that Glen Kamara will attract – is that Steven Davis and Scott Arfield aren’t getting any younger and Ryan Jack faces a constant battle to be fit.

Earlier in the season Vital Rangers identified Dejan Ljubicic as a potential target, a name that has been linked with the club in the past and one that caused us problems in Steven Gerrard’s first season in charge.

In what year did Allan McGregor make his Rangers debut?

Ljubicic – rated at £2.7million by Transfermarkt.com – has just been called up to the Austrian national team with a fixture against Scotland on the horizon, he has been capped at Under-21 level but is yet to make an appearance for the senior side, his ability to play a similar role to Jack either as a defensive midfielder or one that is given license to go forwards is a quality that makes him an attractive proposition  – as does the fact that he is only 22-years old and available on a free transfer.

The last thing we would want to do is spend a fortune on a player to replace Jack only for the Scotland international to get an operation and be 100%, signing someone like Ljubicic makes sense, even more so now than it did earlier in the season.
