Gio van Bronckhorst is adamant that his plan is the right one and that Rangers approach on the pitch will continue as it has so far.

Following recent sluggish form, the Dutchman has come under criticism for his team’s apparent passive displays but he explained that it is more about executing the instructions to the letter and maximising ndividual perfromances.

At Rangers press conference on Friday, he stated:

“Of course, I believe in my way of playing. It’s easy to say now it’s working and of course, in the first eight games, I didn’t hear about that. It’s very easy to say it now but I believe in the system but we need to make sure we keep doing the things we always did.”

“And those are the basic things. To trackback, to make sure you mark your man, the aggression, the moments we go forward you have to take your chances.”

Belief

GvB is correct in that initially there were very few problems.

What can’t be denied is that over the course, the quality of play hasn’t been too good. Results often trump performances but that won’t last forever. It is imperative that starting today, Rangers turn a corner. It simply has to happen.

Perhaps there will be some variation with the full backs, for James Tavernier in particular. Much more is needed from the wingers and Alfredo Morelos will make a welcome too.

Gio’s way can work, but there needs to be visible and improvement and consistency – the alternative leads to a road that we don’t want to travel.
