To follow on from the speculation surrounding the future of the club in recent days, it’s definitely worth looking at the managerial situation, with speculation suggesting that Walter Smith may walk should Martin Bain be forced from Ibrox by the bankers.

Dave King, new-owner-in-waiting if we are to be believed, has supposedly lined-up a Scotsman based down-south. Whilst it’s perhaps too early to link Darren Ferguson to a job of this magnitude, it is believed that Preston North-End manager Alan Irvine and Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies are the two main targets. This corrolates with information published in The Number One Fanzine on Saturday as per this article from the weekend.

Billy Davies has enjoyed a good spell at Forest despite tumultuous relationships with the previous chairmen he’s worked under. A Rangers man through and through who used to play for the club, Davis was heavily linked with taking over the running of Rangers training complex, Murray Park, several years ago.

Best-friend and former assistant to Everton manager Davie Moyes, Alan Irvine has enjoyed a successful spell with Preston, working extremely well with a low budget and continuing to keep the club within the promotion dog-fight in the hugely difficult Coca-Cola Championship.

Managing Rangers would be a huge step up for both, would you welcome either with open arms?
