Carlos Pena is on his way back to Rangers after loan club Necaxa cut his current deal short in his homeland, two months early, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The Mexican has had a rough year-and-a-half since being signed by flop manager Pedro Caixinha at Ibrox last summer, eventually finding himself in rehab and recovering from alcohol addiction after being sacked by another loan club, Cruz Azul.

Reportedly earning as much as £20,000-a-week on his Rangers contract, his return leaves Steven Gerrard with a major decision to make with regards to giving him another chance in his first-team squad.

With his current deal not expiring until 2020 and the chances of someone else buying him slim, logic would suggest that the manager will at the very least take a look at what he can offer on the training ground.

The attacking midfielder made 14 appearances for the Gers before heading off on his first loan, scoring five goals in the process.

Would that kind of goal threat give the squad a boost?
