It has been confirmed that young Rangers goalkeeper Jay Hogarth has signed fresh terms at Ibrox with a three year contract as well as a loan agreement with League One Alloa Athletic.

The 18-year old will be very pleased to have his future secured and now the next step is to impress in senior football at a decent level.

That exposure will add to his experience of playing in the Lowland League last season for the B team, as well as regular training sessions with the first team under the watch of goalkeeper coach, Colin Stewart, whilst learning from Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin.

Graeme Smith, Head of Academy Goalkeeping at Auchenhowie told the official website (as above):

“We are delighted that Jay has extended his stay at Rangers for a further three years.”

“Jay has continued to make fantastic progress during his time at the club and has worked incredibly hard from becoming part of our Academy at the age of ten years old.”

Task

In theory, Hogarth’s future is secured at Ibrox until he is 21, but he will need to impress and rise long before then.

To become number one at Ibrox is a very difficult feat given the demands and the pressure as well as the significant level of ability required to hold down that role.

The status of Robby McCrorie also highlights the daunting challenge ahead but as things stand, Hogarth is rated with high hopes and his move for all of next season to Alloa provides a great platform to continue his learning and progress.
