Gio van Bronckhorst’s team to take on Liverpool at Anfield tonight has been confirmed with starts for Alfredo Morelos, Malik Tillman and Leon King in the Champions League Group A ‘Battle of Britain’ clash.

There are no other real surprises in the side although the inclusion of three central defenders indicates a back five for the Gers.

Rangers team is as follows:

McGregor – Tavernier, Goldson, Davies, King, Barisic – Lundstram, Davis, Tillman – Kent, Morelos.

On the bench for Rangers is:

McLaughlin, McCrorie, Ridvan, Devine, Jack, Kamara, Arfield, Colak, Matondo, Wright, Sakala.

Challenge

A 5-3-2 system appears probable with Kent supporting Morelos in attack. Whilst the back five will obviously need to be organised and resolute, Tavernier and Barisic will need to offer an outlet going forward.

In the middle, the energy of John Lundstram will be so important. On his home turf, along with Davis and Tillman they need to be competitive, to get their foot on the ball and get the team up the pitch at the right moments as well as ‘putting out the fires’.

It will take a mammoth effort to get anything out of the game, but the majority of supporters will be realistic about that.

The size of the task is underlined when looking at Liverpool’s front line and the quarter of Diaz, Jota, Nunez and Salah. The Reds may be formidable up front but the same can’t be said for their ponderous defence at present.

Rangers will get some chances and need to make the most of it, they have to put the pressure on a collective unit which has lost nine goals in the last five games.

This is the one.

The stage is set, Anfield is filling up, this is the moment for this set of Rangers players to deliver.
