The January window may only be a few days old, but it seems as though Rangers are moving quickly. According to the BBC, Jermain Defoe is on course to move to Ibrox, with a deal effectively agreed.

It’s a move that makes a lot of sense. Defoe isn’t playing at Bournemouth, and we could do with a bit of additional firepower. He’s an older player, but he’s got so much experience and quality. In many ways, it’s a no-brainer.

BT Sport pundit and former Celtic forward Chris Sutton has been discussing the proposed move over on Twitter, and it’s fair to say that he’s a little bit concerned for Celtic.

He said: ‘Defoe to Rangers is a game changer…Celtic need to get their finger out’.

Clearly, Sutton is worried for his old team, and so he should be. Not only did we beat Celtic in our last game, but we’re now improving our team in a big way. That’s bad news for the Hoops. You’d expect them to respond with a signing or two of their own, but so far, nothing has been done.

Who knows, maybe even more signings could come over the next few days for us. Let’s hope so. But first, we need to get this one over the line.
