Following on from all the transfer speculation and rejected bids for striker Alfredo Morelos, yesterday evening the player committed his future to Rangers.

The Colombian striker has put pen to paper on the new deal at Ibrox keeping him with us until at least the summer of 2021 and with Graeme Murty admitting his head had been turned with the offers coming in, it’s a credit to those off the pitch as well as Morelos himself in getting a new deal done.

Whether it means an end to the whispers come the end of the season remains to be seen, but the club have now protected their asset and Morelos has helped protect the club in any future deal as we stay in the driving seat of a transfer with the new contract.

Having joined from HJK Helsinki last summer on a three year deal, Morelos has more than made himself at home at the club and in the Premiership as he sits as joint top league scorer having hit 17 goals across all competitions, as well as 17 for Helsinki before he joined us.

The international interest in him speaks for itself.

Reflecting on his new deal as he sat down to speak with the Official Site after signing his new terms last night, the youngster explained.

‘I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Rangers. I know how important the club is in Scotland, how many titles that it has won and how much history that it has. I am really happy here and I am working hard for the team. I love it when the fans show their support to me and sing to me. I`m really grateful for their support and want to repay them with performances on the pitch.’

Murty himself was delighted with the development of Morelos and he’s often spoken about how there’s more to come from him.

‘We are delighted that Alfredo has committed his future to the club today. He is a very talented player and one that we know we can work with to make even better. He has a massive opportunity at this club and we feel that he can continue to improve and even realise his international ambitions here at Rangers and help the club to challenge for silverware.’
