Scotland legend and boyhood Gers fan, Kenny Dalglish spoke recently about the need for Steven Gerrard to add more homegrown players to his squad but the problem is, not many of them are actually that good.

Watching Steve Clarke’s side in the European Championships hasn’t really produced any surprises, the players who ply their trade in the Premier League standing out as being of superior quality to those from the Scottish or English Championships.

If money was no object or if his contract status allowed it, there is one player I’d love to see at Ibrox – Southampton striker Che Adams.

He just looks a class act. Yes, he is still a little rough around the edges given his unorthodox journey to one of football’s toughest leagues, but he has shown this season – with nine goals and five assists – that he has been worth the £15million transfer fee paid to Birmingham City.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

For Scotland, he has offered a more refined option in attack to Lyndon Dykes’s battering ram approach, he’s not had a lot to work with but what he has done, he has done well, a couple of half chances against England aside. His movement is good, he links the midfield and attack well and his footwork allows him time to brings others into the game.

At 24-years old, the Saints are getting the best years out of Adams with three years of his contract still to run, I think he has found his level, but, if the chance came to join a Champions League club at the end of his current deal, you never know, he might just be united with Scotland team-mates Nathan Patterson, Ryan Jack and Jon McLaughlin.
