Saturday saw Rangers take a monumentally important victory over Celtic at Ibrox as we proved that we were certainly on the way back to our best – even if fans know we aren’t quite there yet.

Show consistency and build on the performance we put in against Celtic on Saturday and fans will be saying we’re back, as that kind of showing in a game of that size shows exactly what we are capable of under manager Steven Gerrard and we should’ve silenced a number of critics given our more recent record against the side.

Whilst nobody should be getting too carried away just yet, it’s been a good season so far and this victory more than gives rise to optimism for the future, if you can’t enjoy and celebrate a game like that, you’re following the wrong sport.

Speaking to the BBC, former Rangers striker Steven Thompson told Sportsound.

“That was Rangers’ best performance of the season. If they can replicate this on a regular basis – and if Celtic produce more performances as bad as this – there’s 100% a title race. It’s a monumental performance, easily their best under Steven Gerrard. From minute one, the desire and hunger, they wanted it more. They treated it like an Old Firm game while Celtic thought they could turn up and put in an average performance.”

The key words in his comments are ‘replicate this’ as I’m sure most fans will look at three or four of our draws at least believing we should’ve taken more from the games and a performance like that should return it.
