Isn’t it time that Rangers got together with their kit partner Castore, to produce a quality updated version of the much sought-after lilac change kit?

Given that retro shirts are incredibly popular at present, arguably more than ever before, it would seem to be a prudent choice from the decision makers at Ibrox.

The orange kit is always a favourite with the fans and the club has done well over the last few years to incorporate this, in regard to kit and training wear.

However, now is the time for the return of an icon.

Back in season 1994/95, the Adidas kit was launched yet was only worn twice. It was donned against Sampdoria in a pre-season game at Ibrox and made its only further appearance at Fir Park in a 2-1 loss to Motherwell in October ’94.

For some the kit screams out Brian Laudrup but for this writer, it is Mark Hateley all over.

Over the last year, during the pandemic there has been a serious turnover in these types of 90’s replica shirts changing hands with those in good condition selling for up to hundreds of pounds.

Re-makes have also surfaced online, but with a large variance in standards.

A few years ago in 2015/16, a purple shirt with a diamond design by Puma was launched but it never really held a chance due to the long running feud between Rangers and Sports Direct, who were firmly in control over the club’s kit and merchandise operations at that time.

After some teething issues, things have been much better with Castore since the launch of the transformative agreement between them and Rangers.

Just imagine early next season, after a Summer of glory following the arrival of title number 55, Rangers taking to the pitch in the sunshine wearing a quality Castore version of the 90’s classic.

This popular mock-up by Twitter user @Clarkie8 shows what it could be like.

Go on, make it happen.
