Todd Cantwell said himself that he has a few people to prove wrong as he strives to rediscover his form and good feeling on the pitch.

In terms of what should lie ahead, Rangers fans can be excited by the clip below which was taken during Norwich City’s impressive FA Cup victory away to Tottenham Hotspur back in March 2020. In that fifth round clash, the game finished 1-1 only for the Canaries to prevail 2-3 on penalties with the new Ibrox addition making his mark.

Confidence, swagger, arrogance, bottle, conviction – all of those qualities were evidenced in the build up and execution of his spot kick and they are on-field characteristics that many Rangers heroes through the years have possessed.

Have a look for yourself.

A Sky Sports match report from the game stated:

“Norwich – who are bottom of the Premier League and six points adrift of safety – mounted a spirited second-half display with Todd Cantwell pulling the strings and providing Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons with good service down the wings.”

The 24-year old made a positive impression at his press conference on Tuesday, making clear that he is motivated to work under Michael Beale. He will thrive from the feeling of being wanted at Ibrox, with an understanding already blossoming between player and manager. He should also relish the nature of most games at Ibrox, enjoying the majority of possession and a monopoly of quality over most opponents.

When asked directly what the Rangers fans should expect from him, Cantwell responded:

“I’d sum up my game as someone who’s very passionate, someone who cares a lot about the result at the end. I’m not obsessed with who scores the goals or who sets them up which might sound strange as an attacking player. For me, genuinely hand on heart the most important thing is being on the winning team so I’ll give everything I can.”

“I think in terms of what you can expect in terms of what I actually do on the ball will be that I like to get on the ball a lot. I like to make things happen, I like to spot a pass that maybe other people don’t and I like to get the team going in a rhythmic way.”

There is so much for Cantwell to achieve in Scotland and in Europe, now that he is a Rangers player. Half the battle will be getting the player to be happy once again and expressing himself in his game. If Beale and company can unlock that, there will be many more strings for this talented attacker to pull and exploit.
