Rangers have secured an amazing shot at glory by securing a place in the Europa League semi-final however in between the games against RB Leipzig is a trip to Parkhead.

The final Old Firm clash of the season is scheduled for Sunday 1st May but Rangers should make the call to have the game re-arranged and put pressure on the SPFL to act in the interests of one of their clubs aspiring to reach a European final.

We all know what the likely response would be but at the least, the question should be asked with transparency so that the league body have to respond.

It is farcical that with Rangers continued European involvement, the SPFL in conjunction with Sky went ahead to place the derby into the slot for Matchday 35 but it is far from a surprise. With foresight, they were able to schedule the home game against Dundee United on Sunday 8th May, three days after the EL second leg at Ibrox.

There’s always a way, but there has to be will.

Another interesting situation remains to be seen if the Gers were to go one better and make it to the final in Seville on 18th May, with the last game of the league season – away to Hearts – pencilled in for just three days prior. Would the question be asked then?

Obviously, a second string could be fielded as by then the title should be wrapped up well in advance but overall the entire premise still stands. It is not unreasonable to expect a league body to help its clubs, whoever is involved, in the late stages of European football.

Just because bad decisions have been made previously, they don’t have to always be repeated.
