Pedro Caixinha has described Rangers’ performance against St Johnstone on Friday evening as being the sides best performance yet.

Travelling to McDiarmid Park for the game, a Carlos Pena brace and a third from Graham Dorrans gave us the three nil victory, and Caixinha was quick to say it was our best performance of the season so far.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media for his post game press conference, a delighted gaffer explained.

‘I think so. Football in my opinion is a lot about organisation, and I think tonight we saw a team who was organised and knew exactly what to do in each one of the moments of the game, and everybody thinking at the same time, the same thing. So I am very pleased with it and that means the process is getting there. We haven`t won anything, but we have much more confidence for the future, and with the levels of confidence going up, I think we can do more in the future. The hard work and the process will be the key thing for us in the future.’

With the players remaining at the training centre over the international break, Caixinha went on to say that plenty of hard work had been done over the period and he felt we saw the fruits of those labours in the game.

‘I am delighted as it was solid, it was compact, it was collective, we won and we had a clean sheet. Everything went to the way of all the hard work we have put in over these last two weeks. We haven`t won anything – but it is a step forward definitely in the direction of having a cohesion about the team, about having a squad and a group of players who believe in the process and about getting along together. It was very important and I am very pleased – now it is time to enjoy it. The boys have three days off to enjoy with their families and not to think about football. On Tuesday they will come back again to prepare the semi-final.’

With Pena getting the brace, he obviously came in for praise and the gaffer also felt it had been his ‘best’ showing yet.

‘I think it was definitely his best performance alongside the team`s best performance. I believe when teams play compact like this and teams perform together, it is much easier for the key players or the players who can solve games to express themselves even easier. So I am pleased for him – I know what type of player we are talking about and I know he still has much more to give. It is a question of him keeping believing in himself, us giving him the confidence and keeping working hard.’

With plenty of fans travelling, he went on to say.

‘This is such a massive club, and this is the club with more titles in the world, so it needs to have and has the best supporters in the world. They go and they follow us everywhere, and they support us from the beginning until the end, and they deserve the team playing like this to please them. We need to have this relationship between the supporters and the team, and when things go like that, then everything is going in the right direction.’
