Rangers fans had a pleasing weekend watching their team thrash St Mirren 4-0 at Ibrox on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership.
Although the result ultimately did not move Steven Gerrard’s side closer to Celtic, it was an important result and ensures we keep pace behind them.
The Gers were controversially awarded four penalties across the 90 minutes, three of which were scored. James Tavernier could have had a hat-trick to celebrate but missed one of his spot kick opportunities and handed the other one to Jermain Defoe so he could net his first Ibrox goal.
It was an excellent gesture from the captain after the game was already won and will hopefully give Defoe a bit of confidence in matches to come over the next few weeks.
Tavernier has received plenty of stick for not being ‘captain material’ over the last year or so but it’s moments like this that show he is a leader in the dressing room and an unselfish player for the Rangers cause.
Fans loved the action and took to Twitter to share their thoughts after yesterday’s game…
Brilliant from Tavernier giving up his hatrick to give Defoe his first goal at ibrox 😍

Massive respect for @James_Tavernier today at ibrox. The captain was on a hat trick but still decided to give the pen to Defoe! #Captain #Leadership

Class from Tavernier handing that penalty to defoe rather than bagging his hat-trick. What a player Kent us as-well😍

Penalty awarded and a chance for Tav to score a hat-trick at Ibrox.
Just think about that.
He chooses to hand the ball over to Jermain Defoe who scores on his first appearance at Ibrox.
I won’t be having anymore of this “Tavernier isn’t captain material” nonsense.

That's class from @James_Tavernier to give up a hat trick to get Defoe a goal. Morelos didn't look too pleased mind you 😂😂
