As ever in the transfer window, a move for one player means an opportunity for another. Glen Kamara could soon find himself in that situation with growing links to Brighton.

A potential switch for the Finland international would of course leave a considerable gap to be filled in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers squad, but all of that and more will be resolved in the coming weeks. The reason for the growing links to the Sussex club are due to Graham Potter’s team recently completing the £25million sale of Yves Bissouma to Tottenham Hotspur.

Incidentally, that switch came with the Mali international having 12 months left of his contract with Brighton and provides a healthy return on the £15m that they paid to Lille four years ago. The numbers that Rangers will return upon any potential sale of Kamara will make for fun reading, given the relative buttons paid to Dundee due to his contract and playing situation at the time.

Now, in order to fill the role of Bissouma, the Rangers man has been linked and given his similar profile, it would be a move to tick a lot of boxes as reported today by Sussex Live:

“One player they could turn to, though, is Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara. The 26-year-old is being tipped to leave Ibrox this summer despite having three years to run on his contract.”

“The Finland international, who joined the Gers from Dundee in 2019, has made more than 150 appearances for Rangers and was a key part of the side’s run to the Europa League final. He is being strongly linked with a move this summer, with clubs in England and on the continent keeping tabs on him ahead of the new 2022/23 season.”

Timing

The link comes following other reports in recent days claiming that Brighton are seriously considering Kamara, in a move that would be of interest all round, particularly as he has hinted at wanting a real crack at the Premier League, years after a taste of it on the fringes of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal squad.

With the contract security of Glen Kamara’s 2025 deal, the asset is secured from Rangers perspective so any fee would need to reflect that reality in what would represent great business at the right time.
