It has been claimed this evening on Sky Sports News that legendary Dutch striker Roy Makaay will join Giovanni van Bronckhorst as one of his assistants at Ibrox.

As if the main news wasn’t big enough, this is another great boost and one that will make an impact with the strikers at Ibrox, as well as capturing the imagination of the supporters.

Dutch football expert and journalist Marcel van der Kraan dropped the scoop live on Sky Sports News within the last 30 minutes.

Over his career, Makaay was a deadly striker for the likes of Deportivo la Coruna, Bayern Munich and Feyenoord with an overall record of 256 goals in 526 games – a record that speaks for itself.

There is no doubt that he has plenty to offer from his own experiences, as a coach.

Most recently, Makaay had been working within the youth setup at Feyenoord, as well as the senior team as a striker coach.

In itself, this is a bold and exciting appointment – hopefully to be confirmed by the club very soon.

Reports from the Netherlands have also backed up this move, as reported by Voetbal International:

“The appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Rangers FC also means good news for another former international. Roy Makaay becomes one of the assistants of the new manager with the champion of Scotland.”

“Van Bronckhorst and Makaay already worked together at Feyenoord in the period 2015-2019. The former striker was then not only (assistant) trainer of Jong Feyenoord, but also striker trainer with the first team.”
