Striker and hattrick hero Kris Boyd refused to take too much credit following the victory over Clyde last night, insisting the whole team deserved praise for the performances they put in because it allowed him to get the hattrick through the service he was receiving.

Speaking to the Official Site after the eight one victory, he explained.

‘It was good to get back on the scoresheet for this club, it’s been a long time coming and especially this season. We’ve huffed and puffed and after getting my goal chopped off on Friday night, it was another chance to get out there and correct it.’

Boyd goes on to say in terms of ‘correcting it’ he felt everybody on the pitch did that right from the first minute until the last, although obviously not keeping a clean sheet was a disappointment.

‘I thought we were excellent up to the last few minutes. It was great and it was good to be out there, it was a good team performance and everybody wanted the ball. When you score early it helps, in our first few games a few people have maybe struggled to get into them higher up areas on the pitch, especially the strikers. Kenny Miller and I have struggled to get on the ball but that’s not down to the other players, our movement could have been better too.’

Last night though he goes on to pick out the efforts of Nicky Clark, Lewis Macleod and Lee McCulloch as being excellent in relation to that, and Fraser Aird who definitely helped us play higher up the pitch, so he couldn’t be happier but he knows that’s the standard we now have to live up to.

‘I look at Fraser, who got into areas that helped the strikers against Clyde with regards to coming in off the touchline and taking part in the game. He wasn’t just standing out there. He came in and got involved and it was the same with Lewis, who was fantastic where he moved into the middle. He took the game by the scruff of the neck and took it to Clyde.’

Adding that for Macleod especially he was creating a bundle of chances with his efforts, and got himself a very deserved brace as well.

‘That’s what you want from your midfielders, you want to see them running beyond strikers and taking part.’

Echoing the gaffer in terms of the confidence boost that will give everyone, he feels it was definitely needed as it’s been something we’ve lacked really – that natural belief – but last night proved exactly what we could do on form so now it’s about staying in form.
