Alfredo Morelos has been omitted from Rangers squad to take on PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League Playoff decider.

The massive, bombshell news is a significant development which will have consequences for the player, for the chances of getting past PSV as well as Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Managers suffer or thrive on huge calls like this and it is clear that a line in the sand has been drawn regarding Morelos by the manager if he feels that this is the right course of action ahead of such an important game.

It has been said that the call was made “following various concerns including the striker’s fitness levels and attitude over the early stages of this season.”

The Sky Sports feature also stated that it is not the end of the road for the Colombian international but that remains to be seen:

“It is understood the 26-year-old does still have a future at Ibrox – if he can prove his commitment to the club – with talks over a new deal currently on hold.”

At this stage with new deal negotiations supposedly on ice, just how will Morelos respond? Will he feel that he has something to prove? That is unlikely but Rangers Champions League situation could have an impact. The flip side is that Morelos can sign a pre-contract with a new club in just over three months time, as well as the prospect of looking to move on immediately in this transfer window.

The next 10 days will be huge in terms of how this develops and the future of Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers stance and media briefings have been clear, which confirm that all is not well between the manager and the player, as well as his status in the squad.
