Rangers followed up Thursday’s impressive result against Villarreal with a storming performance at home to St Johnstone on Sunday, winning 5-1 in front of a buoyant Ibrox support.

The victory ensures that the Gers move up to second in the Scottish Premiership table, five points behind league leaders Hearts.

Goals from five different scorers contributed to the victory, with captain James Tavernier getting the day off and running with a peach of a free-kick that gave opposition goalkeeper Zander Clark no chance.

The right-back also provided the assist for Alfredo Morelos to double the home side’s advantage, proving once again that he is one of the best full-backs in the country.

The fact he is one of the team’s most productive attacking outlets right now may be unconventional, but there’s no doubt that Steven Gerrard is getting the best out of him.

Fans took to Twitter to pay tribute to his contribution on Sunday…
