Michael Beale revealed this afternoon that a healthy budget awaits for the upcoming Summer transfer window at Ibrox.

The Rangers manager was speaking ahead of the visit of Dundee United on Saturday afternoon as the ‘real’ action returns following the international break.

In his usual way, Beale was open and happy to address several issues regarding the squad, form and other topical matters. Then a comment followed in relation to the rebuild of the squad and the pivotal task of making the squad capable of being champions once again. That will be decided be the success or not, of squad turnover. Who can be brought in to the club, balanced against those who will be heading for the exit.

More context can be provided once the full quotes and video coverage from the press conference are available later on Friday afternoon.

It is a positive outlook offered by Beale but regardless of the amount available to spend, the club has to get it right. There is serious pressure on sporting director Ross Wilson and his team to identify and recruit the right players who can come in to make an impact, immediately.

Project players such as Rabbi Matondo and even Ridvan Yilmaz will not do. It may be unfair to bracket both together but they represented a significant outlay last year and for different reasons, were not in a position to play and contribute significantly. With the overall task of chasing down Celtic, that situation for incoming players is a luxury that cannot be afforded.

It’s great to hear that the manager is confident about the business ahead in the Summer but it must be backed up with evidence on the pitch.
