BBC pundit Michael Stewart has blasted Alan Power for his challenge on Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack during this weekend’s Scottish Cup clash at Rugby Park.

The Killie man went into a challenge on Jack with a high boot, catching the Gers man on the side of the face full force with his studs up.

It was an incredibly dangerous incident and Stewart believes the Rangers star was lucky to escape without serious injury.

As quoted by The Daily Record, the former Hearts and Hibs man said: “Ryan could have been blinded by that. Ok, there is no intent there – he’s not looking – but it’s a dangerous challenge.”

In my eyes, the SFA must now take action via the compliance officer on the Kilmarnock man. He was given a yellow card for the ‘tackle’, but there is previous precedent for bans to be handed out even when the referee has taken action during the match.

Steven Gerrard opened the door for citation with his post-match comments and it’ll be interesting to see if the consistency that Killie boss Steve Clarke has called for over the last week is now applied.

Rangers have been on the receiving any of many compliance officer decisions this season and it’s about time other clubs are taken to task.
