BBC pundit launches furious attack on actions of Rangers supporters

BBC Scotland pundit Michael Stewart has launched a furious tirade at Rangers supporters after crowd trouble marred the end of yesterday’s match at Pittodrie against Aberdeen.

As reported by the BBC, six supporters at yesterday’s match have been arrested following disorder and the use of a pyrotechnic device, with police also investigating reports of seats being thrown by both home and away fans after the full-time whistle.

After a bottle was thrown at Celtic winger Scott Sinclair on Saturday at Easter Road and coins were thrown at both Kris Boyd and Zdenek Zlamal in recent Hoops matches, there seems to be a pattern of escalating problems in Scottish football and it’s something that Stewart was quick to address on this weekend’s edition of Sportscene.

As quoted by The Daily Record, he said:

We’re wanting to try and get this eradicated from the game. We’ve got to say Rangers released a statement yesterday, which should be applauded to try and make sure the fans were fully aware of what is unacceptable.

They’re not listening though. They’re still singing sectarian songs at Pittodrie.

They’re then involved, the police have said both supporters throwing seats at each other.

We can talk about this as much as we want but until the clubs are willing to sit down and discuss all possibilities of how you attack this and how you try and stamp it out, these statements are going to carry no weight because the fans are not listening.

With Aberdeen fans also unveiling insulting banners aimed at Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Jack yesterday, the idiocy of Scottish football fans appears to be appearing with more and more regularity in 2019.

Throwing anything at players or other supporters is simply unacceptable and fans must heed the advice of clubs and officials or risk exposing themselves to drastic measures like strict liability that could harm the whole support or even the club itself.

When representing Rangers, nobody is doing any good participating in such behaviour.
