If Rangers have Barry Douglas on a list of possible replacements for Borna Barisic, they will have to move fast.

Of course, we would have to receive offers for the Croatian international first but with half of the Premier League seemingly interested in securing his services, it may be a matter of when, rather than if, he leaves this summer.

Douglas hasn’t ruled out a move back to his homeland, and  as a lifelong Gers fan he would surely jump at the chance to play at Ibrox, however, The Daily Mirror is reporting that Bristol City are leading the way for his signature.

“Bristol City are leading the hunt for Leeds’ former Scotland international Barry Douglas.

“Douglas has not been offered a new contact by Leeds and will become a free agent on July 1.

“City are keen on the left-back and there is interest in him from the EFL, Scotland, Turkey and the United States.

“Douglas, 31, helped Leeds win promotion in 2020, but failed to make a single appearance for them in the Premier League as Marcelo Bielsa opted instead for Stuart Dallas or Ezgjan Alioski at left-back.”

Douglas would be a solid stop gap option for Rangers whilst Calvin Bassey and James Maxwell are allowed to develop, he would also fit seamlessly into our style of play given how he has made his name as an attacking full-back with great delivery off his left foot from both open and set piece situations.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

He wouldn’t fit the normal transfer model but, an international footballer with years of experience in England’s top leagues, for free, with a few good years service still left to give, someone is getting a bargain wherever he goes.
