Brandon Barker has followed up on a bright debut for Oxford United with his first goal for the club in his second game – a 2-0 win away to Bristol Rovers, last night.

His clincher came late, into added time, when he received the ball to drive past his opponent on the outside before smashing a hard shot past the goalkeeper.

The win takes Oxford up to ninth place in the League 1 table.

So far so good for Barker who appears to be enjoying the game time with Karl Robinson’s team.

The 24-year old spoke to Oxford’s media team after the game, revealing his relief and pleasure to get his first strike on the board quickly:

“When you come a to a new club you do want to get your first goal out of the way as quickly as you can.”

“Thankfully I did that and it came at a good time in the game when we were under a little bit of pressure and it meant we got the win.”

“It was nice to get the goal – I just tried to get it out on my left and hit it as hard as I could!”

“The goal was good personally but another win for the team was much more important.”

Hopefully this will be the first of many for Barker as he aims to make the most of his loan spell, away from Ibrox.

It remains to be seen if there is a Rangers future for the player but if he impresses in League One, it will either give him another chance in pre-season under Steven Gerrard or will lead to a decent permanent move.
