Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose was candid and honest about the major disaapointment that his Borussia Dortmund team suffered at the hands of Rangers.

It was a night to forget for the German coach, with his side failing to impress and only showing any urgency in the late stages of the game. What it means is further pressure on Rose follwoing the recent heavy defeat to Bayer Leverkusen as well as the German Cup exit to second tier St Pauli.

BVB are a vulnerable collective at present and Rangers went for the jugular.

A downbeat Rose was honest on his team’s chances in Glasgow next week, with a clear reflection on their failings as reported by Rangers Review:

“Of course this situation is difficult. We lost with a difference of two goals. There’s no away goals anymore so that might be a little help but to score two goals at Ibrox with 50,000 fans there is quite a task.”

“Today there were two set-pieces. There was Dan-Axel’s handball and another disappointment at the second corner.”

“A simple mistake out on the wing led to the third goal and before the fourth goal there was another easy loss of possession.”

“These are all the little details that have put us in this bad direction. But we didn’t do enough to take it into our direction.”

“Today we weren’t aggressive enough. We didn’t run enough. There wasn’t enough movement and that allowed Rangers to conquer enough ball.”

Reprieve

Early reports from Germany suggest that there is no immediate danger of the head coach being dismissed, unless their league form falls off a cliff.

A ot could change very soon though. Next up for Dortmund ahead of the Ibrox decider is a home fixture against Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday.

That is now 14 goals that that BVB have conceded over the last six games – that is simply untenable and cannot continue for a club of their stature at the top end of the Bundesliga. Either they get their act together or something will give soon.

There is clearly something not right within the team dynamic and whilst they are going through something of a downturn at present with additions needed to their squad, the here and now matters a lot with what is at stake over the rest of this season.
