‘As usual caught out’ – These Rangers fans want to see more discipline from star after 1st Gerrard win

James Tavernier in action for Rangers

Rangers picked up their first win under Steven Gerrard this evening but some fans are looking for more discpline from right-back James Tavernier, despite a solid attacking performance from the newly appointed captain.

In our view, the 26-year-old was actually one of the Gers’ top performers on the evening, delivering cross after cross for his teammates in attack and giving the Macedonian visitors all sorts of problems down their left hand side.

He also held his nerve to score the late penalty that completed the 2-0 victory.

However, the same problems in his game reared their head again, with Shkupi finding some joy on his side of defence, notably hitting the bar in the first half. Against a better side it could have been more of a worry.

Overall, it was something of a frustrating performance from the team tonight, failing to take the chances that would have put the game beyond doubt ahead of the second leg next week. It wasn’t until that late penalty that the game was really comfortable.

Hopefully over the coming weeks and months the team can find their clinical edge.
