Aribo and Bassey singled out for recognition with reward

On Sunday, it was more publicity and more recognition for Rangers’ Calvin Bassey, as well as Joe Aribo in their native Nigeria at ‘The Ballers Awards’. 

For Bassey, he received the ‘Revelation of the Year’, given his breakthrough at international level whilst Aribo secured the ‘Midfielder of the Year’ prize.

Yes, it is fair to say that the Ibrox pair are now firmly established with the Super Eagles.

Other winners on the night included:

Victor Osimhen of Napoli, (Baller of the Year), Ajani Waheed (Most Promising) and Kennedy Boboye (Coach of the Year).

Impact

Obviously, the Ibrox pair made a contribution domestically but it is due to the exploits in the Europa League as well as on the international stage with Nigeria that has brought about these accolades.

Both now, will go into the Summer facing speculation on their club futures given their recent top firm, especially Aribo who has just 12 months remaining on his contract his Rangers, as things stand.

The pair are still on international duty but with lowly St Tome and Principe providing the opposition on Monday for Nigeria in the AFCON qualifier, they may yet be spared from selection with Aribo in particlular having already played a mammoth 70 games since the start of the season.

Some downtime is long overdue, both players have worked very hard for it and with Rangers first team squad returning for pre-season in two weeks time at Auchenhowie, they are likely to be included in the contingent of international representatives to get some added leave ahead of the training camp in Portugal, in early July.
