The BBC has issued an apology for the tweets of Margaret Gilmour, one of its journalists based at Pacific Quay, the Glasgow headquarters of BBC Scotland.

VitalRangers understands that licence fee payers made complaints and objections to the corporation over Gilmour’s remarks in relation to Rangers promotional video to mark the 150th anniversary commemorative kit launch, a tribute to the Gallant Pioneers who founded the club back in 1872.

In the video dedicated to Rangers founders to publicise the kit ‘as worn’ by the team of the late 19th century, the club used an Ibrox anthem which explicity refers to the story of Rangers beginning and it’s evolution.

That’s right, even those four lads who had a dream to start a football team fell foul of some people, including Gilmour.

Apparently, the explicit, direct references to the founders were a method of pandering and a dogwhistle with a totally different meaning – that was what was implied, as can be seen above.

On those complaints to the BBC about its contributor to BBC Scotland’s The Nine, they responded:

“Regarding the tweets by a BBC journalist which also mentioned the promotional video; these were not in line with our Editorial Guidelines and we apologise.”

The extent of the complaints over this issue will be further acknowledged and catalogued in the next report, which is issued on a fornightly basis – all of which is publically available online.
