Earlier this morning it was being reported that Brighton and Hove Albion were planning on making a late bid for Rangers fullback and skipper James Tavernier.

The Express reported that Brighton planned to make the bid late on in deadline day, presumably to put the pressure on and maybe tempt us into cashing in on the 26-year-old.

I must say it seems unlikely as far as speculation goes because if they were going to put a deal in place that was tempting in the final hours, then it would be tempting yesterday and Brighton haven’t been slow to spend this summer, nor get deals done early.

It’s fair to say some fans aren’t best pleased with the speculation coming up late and potentially serving as a distraction ahead of the Maribor match.

The report states very little in terms of concrete news to back the speculation up, it mainly leans on Tavernier possibly wanting a crack at the English top-flight and mainly our signing of Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic as we have a ready-made replacement, whose so far played out of position – but it feels forced as a transfer rumour.

Josh Windass also gets the obligatory mention.
