Ally McCoist has admitted that the conditions on the night made the game against Forfar tough, and it did have an affect on the quality of the game on show.

Speaking to the Official Site following the tight one nil win, the manager admitted that the swirling wind made it difficult for both sides over 90 minutes, and unfortunately for fans, that really did affect the entertainment value on offer.

‘I was disappointed with the performance, I’ve got to be honest. We are definitely capable of playing far better than that. That said you have come away from the stand and you can see what the conditions were like, it’s really blustery and that made it tough to play good football. So as genuinely disappointed as I was with the performance, I would have to cut the players a bit of slack.’

McCoist adds that he knows there were some disapproving noise form the stands, but he assures fans you won’t fully appreciate the affect of the wind of the playing surface unless you walked out there and felt it.

The important thing is really Rangers effectively won ugly again, and that’s something we’re going to have to do this season as whether it’s the opposition, the referee or the conditions, we won’t always have everything go for us as we’d like and we won’t be able to play silky attractive and entertaining football, but we need to come out with the three points regardless.

McCoist himself points out that he’s not 100% sure we’d have walked away with the three points from a game like that last season, which in itself is progression and improvement.
