Rangers are targeting a move for Nimes Olimpique attacker Zinedine Ferhat.

That is the verdict of French outlet Foot Mercato, who claim that the Ibrox club have joined the likes of Sassuolo, St Etienne as well as an unnamed ‘top French club’ in the race to capture Ferhat.

The 29-year old has been capped 11 times by Algeria and in 32 Ligue 1 appearances this season, he has registered six goals and 10 assists.

Transfermarkt have the player listed with a £7.2 million valuation, but with his contract set to expire next year, any potential transfer fee this Summer would reflect that.

Despite Nimes, currently second bottom, having had a difficult season – Ferhat has impressed.

If the Occitanie club is relegated in the coming weeks, it appears likely that the player will depart and his destination could be Ibrox.

Foot Mercato reported:

‘Despite a complicated season for his club still struggling to survive in Ligue 1, Zinedine Ferhat is having the most successful season of his career with Nîmes Olympique.’

‘With 6 goals and 9 assists in Ligue 1, the Algerian international (10 caps), under contract until June 2022 with the Crocos, is one of the most decisive players in the championship.’

‘Obviously, such performances leave no one indifferent. Several French and European clubs are closely interested in the native of Bordj Menaiel’
