There were few, if any positives, that could be taken out of the weekend’s defeat to Dundee United.

One though was the return of Alfredo Morelos, the Colombian international making a surprise return into the starting XI primarily due to the combined absences of Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala respectively.

It says a lot that he was in the condition to play almost the whole game, previously, a three week break would have set the 25-year old back quite a bit in terms of fitness – he has to be applauded for keeping himself in shape.

Encouragingly, his fitness wasn’t the only positive aspect of his performance.

His touch looked good despite not having played any real football for some time, the ball was sticking to him and if he didn’t win free-kicks he was bringing others into the game.

If anything, the only flaw to his game was that he was too keen to get on the score sheet, a few times he looked to shoot rather than play in a team-mate who was in a better position, he would, however, have had a 1 v 1 opportunity had it not been for Charlie Mulgrew pulling him down when he was clean through, a chance he created for himself.

If we are to have any chance of making the Champions League group stages, we need a fit and firing Alfredo Morelos, we’re halfway there at least, fingers crossed he finds his form in time to once again fire us to European glory.
