Alfredo Morelos at Rangers – the beginning of the end?

Last night at Ibrox, we saw prime Alfredo Morelos.

A hungry, aggressive, assertive striker posing a threat on the European stage – it was certainly not the first time but could it be the last?

Morelos added to his club record European goals tally, notching his 24th strike, but the collective failure to add to the first half opener is likely to have further consequences.

Given all that the Colombian has achieved to date at Ibrox, with the loss of potential Champions League football, will more of the same be enough to keep him or will he now look to move on to pastures new?

A Scottish Premiership winners medal is in Morelos’ possession and he has led the front line with distinction in the Europa League over the last three seasons.

With that in mind, just how much hunger and determination will he have to continue on the much travelled road?

Taking off the partisan blue tinted specs for a moment, who could blame Morelos for wanting to make a fresh step with the aim of securing Champions League football – especially if Porto reignite their chase – or to secure a switch to a greater league.

Rangers without ‘El Bufalo’ is a sobering proposition but it is a thought that has to be contemplated now the prestige and riches of Europe’s top competiton are out of bounds for another 12 months at least.

The club was already aware of the need to implement player trading, to cash in and reinvest on the pitch when neccessary but following the very disappointing defeat to Malmo, a sale of two key players looms as a very realistic possibility.
