Ross Wilson will have to be at his persuasive best if Alfie Doughty is to become a Rangers player after the latest reports that emerged over the weekend.

Charlton Athletic boss, Lee Bowyer, has revealed that the 21-year old has been the subject of bids from three Championship sides – all of which have been accepted – as reported by London News Online:

“There are three Championship sides that we have agreed terms with. I expect Alfie will speak to all three of them. I think he should.

“Don’t just make a rash decision – he should speak to all three.

“He’s been really good. He’s not been knocking on the door. But this is football – these are things you can’t control.

“I expect him to be gone in the near future – I don’t know how soon. I think it’s now down to the three clubs, Alfie, his family and his agent getting together and seeing which one he prefers.

“That might take a little time, that, but I expect him to be going.”

Rangers don’t have to wait until the end of the season to offer Doughty a contract and accordingly have given him a decision to make – either leave for a Championship team now, or sign for Steven Gerrard and wait until the summer to make your move.

There is, of course, an alternative solution whereby Doughty accepts Rangers offer and Charlton allow him to leave for a cut-price deal, however, given Bowyer’s previous statements, I wouldn’t count on him being anything less than stubborn if it comes to that.
