Rangers could be set to lose out on Charlton Athletic’s Alfie Doughty if a report in Football Insider proves to be accurate after it was revealed that Stoke City have agreed terms with the 21-year old.

Addicks boss, Lee Bowyer, confirmed at the weekend that three Championship clubs had lodged bids for the versatile left-footer and that the ball was firmly in the court of the player himself.

Interestingly, nothing has been announced and Doughty has stated that he intends to see the season out with Charlton, a pre-contract agreement with Rangers can’t be ruled out at this stage prelude for this reason.

There has, of course, been nothing confirmed by Rangers that we are in for Doughty but his profile does fit what we would be looking for, not only in a left-back, but also in terms of our transfer model going forward.

It would be a low cost deal with the potential to develop him and sell him further down the line at a profit, he is also perfect for our style of play in that he can also play as a winger giving an indication of his attacking ability.

Bassey to replace Barisic

James Maxwell promoted to first-team squad

Borna Barisic and James Tavernier spend most of their time in the final third so any potential replacements have to be comfortable in that area of the field and form a key part of Rangers attack.

Barisic has been attracting a lot of interest lately and at 28-years old he is probably at his peak in terms of potential sell-on value, a good European Championships would certainly do his transfer value no harm at all – whether or not Doughty is the man to replace him, we’ll have to wait and see.
