The situation around Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent was brought up at Rangers AGM this morning with some interesting feedback provided on this ongoing matter.

Chairman Douglas Park as well as Sporting Director Ross Wilson contributed responses to a question from the floor regarding player contracts and why they were being allowed to run down. This obviously applies to the key duo of Morelos and Kent but as well as that pair, several other first team figures are now into the last few months of their exisiting contracts.

The AGM content is very likely to be provided in full on Rangers TV later today but several attendants were relaying information from the Clyde Auditorium venue, ‘live-Tweeting’ via the social media app.

As can be viewed above, the essence of the response from Wilson indicated a different scenario with the two players even though they are both in the same boat of being able to sign a pre-contract agreement from next month and/or to depart from Ibrox for nothing at the end of the season:

“For a player to sign contract both need to want it. Need family etc to want it too. Kent and Morelos different situations, unfair to go into specifics. Club want both players to stay.”

Wilson also put forward that significant bids for the pair had been turned down back in the Summer of 2021 after the title win but that bears little to no relevance now, with Park adding that demands are too high which points to an impasse regarding any new terms for contract extensions.

It all adds to an intriguing but ongoing saga with the uncertainty not helping Rangers at all. Michael Beale’s role will be a significant one but at this stage the power appears to lie with the players in determining the next step of their respective careers whether that will be at Ibrox or not.
