Rangers have won their first match of the Steven Gerrard era with a 2-0 victory over Macedonian minnows FK Shkupi, putting them in pole position to qualify for the next round of UEFA Europa League qualifying.
It was an evening that should have resulted in more goals for the Gers, noted by the manager in his post-match interviews, and a reminder that there is still plenty of work to do to turn this side into genuine contenders for major honours.
Scoring in the first half, it wasn’t until a late James Tavernier penalty that the game was put beyond doubt and a healthy cushion was in place for the second leg.
One player who fans have been almost unanimous in their praise for was substitute Glenn Middleton, who came off the bench to impress massively in attack, giving the side an attacking purpose that they had been lacking with Josh Windass on the pitch.
These fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his potential, believing he should be getting more minutes in the first team…
Glenn Middleton far more direct, aggressive and productive than any of his fellow attackers tonight. Seems likely he'll be heavily involved at Rangers this season.

Done more in 10 mins than Windass did in 80

Glenn Middleton making the rest of the team look bad. Plenty work to do for Gerrard.

Glenn Middleton brought some much needed attacking purpose to Rangers' play in the closing stages looks a very good prospect for the season ahead.

I like Glenn Middleton. He looked like he enjoyed the occasion tonight. Love the fact he likes to beat his man and whip in a cross. Don’t see many wingers hitting the by-line these days. Refreshing.
