Former Rangers striker and BBC Scotland pundit Steven Thompson believes Ibrox star Jermain Defoe should have been booked for simulation during Saturday’s match at home to St Mirren.

Defoe drew two fouls in the box from the Buddies during the 4-0 win, with the first an obvious trip and the second more dubious.

There didn’t appear to be much contact in the latter incident, but the Rangers man didn’t even claim for a penalty, so how he could be booked is beyond me.

Thompson though disagrees.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “For me it’s simulation and he should have been booked. There’s nothing to put Jermain Defoe onto the ground there. It’s a dive.”

Much has been made of the penalties awarded to Steven Gerrard’s side at the weekend but the fact is we could have been given even more than the four whistled for.

Alfredo Morelos was also pulled to the ground in the box in the second half and should have won the team a fifth spot-kick.

Andrew Dallas may not be the best referee in the country, but many of the incidents on Saturday were borderline and could have been given to any other team in the Scottish Premiership.

The conspiracy theories are becoming rather boring.
