A Sour Taste In The Mouth To Lose In That Fashion

Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty has said the mood in the dressing room was very low following defeat to Celtic.

Having lost three two on the day despite them being down to ten men when the match was poised at two all, Rangers failed to capitalise on the red card shown to Jozo Simunovic and manager Graeme Murty more than expressed his frustration at that at the full time whistle.

Docherty seemed largely on board with what Murty had said when it came to the defending on the day as he spoke to the Official Site but obviously the disappointment goes further than simply bragging rights.

‘It`s obviously a tough one and it leaves a real sour taste in the mouth to lose in that fashion. The second and third goals in particular were two really, really sloppy goals to concede and we are very, very disappointed in the dressing room. I`m gutted – we are all are. I`m gutted for the fans that came out as the atmosphere was incredible today, and we couldn`t have asked for any more. It`s just so disappointing we couldn`t reward them.’

Questioned on whether the game was a missed opportunity, Docherty didn’t fudge the question as he knew it was exactly that and there was no other way to describe it.

‘Yeah, massively. I think when they went down to 10-men, for some reason we stopped moving the ball as quickly. We`ll need to look back on things and see why that is. Again, you can`t give teams, good teams, chances like that. But, again, it`s poor defending on our part all over the pitch. We have to be more clinical I think and take our chances when they come. It wasn`t the case today which is extremely disappointing.’

Docherty did want to discuss the positives we could take from the game as errors aside we showed we could match them and taking the lead twice had to be a boost ahead of next month’s Scottish Cup semi final at Hampden, but we certainly needed to be better than we were on the day.

‘There were times today we did play well, but going into that game we are going to have to remember the feeling of hurt we have just now, and take it into that game. That`s going to be a huge factor and obviously it`s a huge game again. Maybe it`s a chance for us to rectify it so soon which is good. But we are a really disheartened dressing room just now – we have got to pick ourselves up like we said and it`s just extremely disappointing to come away without at least a point – at least a point. To score two at home and then concede three is not good enough.’

With Kilmarnock next there had to be a quick reaction to this and he was more than aware of that.

‘It`s obviously a chance again for us to bounce back. Kilmarnock are doing well just now, and they will have a game on Tuesday so they will be putting a lot of effort into that. We have got to focus on us, and I think we have got to go now and put in a performance that the fans deserve. It`s massive Saturday for us as it`s a chance for us to bounce back. This is a real sore one – it will be tough to get over but we are going to have to do it.’
