Former England international Joe Cole has backed Ryan Kent to be a hit at Rangers over the coming season, after his switch to Ibrox from Anfield was confirmed on Sunday.

Kent was announced as the Gers 10th signing of the summer, joining on a season-long loan from Liverpool. His most recent spells away from the Reds have been at Bundesliga side Freiburg and English Championship outfit Bristol City.

A former teammate of both Kent and Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole, believes that the move is the perfect one for all parties and admits he is excited to see what the winger can achieve at Ibrox over the coming season.

As quoted by The Daily Record, Cole said:

I’ve no doubts Steven is the ideal guy to go and progress Ryan’s career at this stage. He’s going to inspire any young – or senior player – in his dressing room. Not just because of what he achieved as a player but what he brings as a personality and what he’s brought to British football as a whole.

Any player will want to work for Steven but particularly younger ones from a Liverpool background.

Ryan will have been steeped in what Steven Gerrard’s all about. It looks to me like a perfect fit all round and I’m excited for the lad, I want to see what he can do there.

This is a great move for Liverpool because they feel it will improve him as a player, for Kenty because he’s going to a massive club, and for Rangers because he’s a top young player.

Cole played with Kent at Coventry City, mentoring him on and off the pitch back in 2015. Having followed his career since then, he offers an expert insight here that should be of interest to Rangers supporters.

Kent doesn’t have the best track record in terms of direct goal contributions given his attacking position but fans will be hoping he can find his feet at Ibrox under the guidance of Gerrard.

The former Anfield youth coach will know all about Kent’s ability and clearly thinks he is good enough for the first team at Ibrox.
