Kris Commons has been at it again, this time claiming that if Steven Gerrard wasn’t a big name he would be getting “hounded out” of Ibrox as reported in The Glasgow Times (via Commons’ Daily Mail column).
The former Celtic forward is quick to put the boot in to Gerrard at the earliest opportunity and despite claiming that Rangers would need £70m to close the gap on Celtic he feels that he is lucky to not be under more pressure because of his side’s recent struggles.
Commons neglects to mention the recent spate of refereeing decisions that have gone against the Gers or having a raft of key players missing through injury or suspension, nor does he reflect on his own side’s good form all of which have contributed to the now ten point gap.
Will Gerrard turn things around for Rangers?
Yes
No
Needless to say, Rangers fans responded to Commons’ bizarre claims on social media by questioning both his competence and his relevance.
As a Rangers fan, I couldn’t care less what Kris Commons says.
He is a nobody.

Garbage. Improvement year on year since he came. We’re better off points wise than last season and still in Europe. And as a person he speaks honestly and “gets” Rangers. He’ll prove himself a winner and he’ll do for me

Commons is an irrelevance

Only if you’re an idiot
A few poor performances recently no doubt about it, but if our referees would maybe start to officiate properly, we’d be winning the games we’ve struggled in comfortably imo
Goals chopped, penalties not given, players not sent off when deserved mounts up

Kris who?

Every statistic points to Gerrard improving Rangers, yes, they have yet to win silverware – which is the major metric for judging Old Firm managers – but against such a dominant Celtic team even the great Walter Smith would’ve been up against it. Patience not panic should be at the forefront of fans of the Light Blues as they continue to be frustrated at their rivals stranglehold on Scottish football.
