With Rangers taking a 2-0 victory over FC Shkupi in last night’s first leg tie in the First Qualifying Round of this year’s Europa League competition, reactions following the game were mixed.

Some fans were delighted to take the two-goal advantage through to the second leg, some were adamant we should’ve killed them off. Others saw signs of great things to come, and the joy of football means a number thought the performance was pathetic – even allowing for the early stage manager Steven Gerrard is at.

The is all about options though and one man, in particular, seemed to have a groundswell of positive opinions following his own performance.

Making his debut as a late substitute in the game and tasting a nervy Ibrox atmosphere until we stuck the penalty away to ensure the win, Glenn Middleton didn’t just receive positive words from the gaffer, fans had plenty of their own for him.

He was probably the standout from the game in many ways.
