Rangers announced an extension to their shirt sponsorship deal with 32Red and Unibet this week which should earn the club around £1.5million per season, putting them alongside some Premier League sides for this sort of contract.

Speaking to Football Insider, football finance expert, Kieran Maguire, has been full of praise for the Light Blues commercial team who have overseen a huge increase in revenue over the last couple of years, at a time when it has been needed most.

“They have been amazing commercially over the past year or so.

“If we take a look at Rangers’ non-matchday, non-broadcast income we can see that get larger.

“It’s gone from £4m in 2017 to £20m in 2020. So they have doubled their profits in that area.

“To do that, especially when there were Covid issues in 2019-20, is indicative that they’ve got people with their heads screwed on at Ibrox.”
Steven Gerrard will rightly get a lot of praise for his achievements on the pitch but Stewart Robertson and, more importantly, James Bisgrove should receive equal credit for the improvements made off it both in terms of increased revenue and professionalism.

When Dave King arrived he left us in no uncertain terms of what had to be done at the club, yes, we have made losses but we have had no real income from merchandising, poor sponsorship deals as well as Ibrox and Auchenhowie both needing much needed upgrading with work still to be done.
His dream was for us to be the best in every facet of the club, we aren’t there yet, but we’re getting there.
