Glen Kamara has been punished for “assaulting” Slavia Prague’s Ondrej Kudela after the Czech Republic international racially abused him with UEFA handing the Rangers midfielder a three match ban.

Whilst Kudela is banned for club and country, Kamara will miss the next three games that Rangers play in UEFA competition meaning that he could be absent for all but one of their Champions League qualifiers.

The Finland international is one of Steven Gerrard’s go-to men in continental football and will be a big miss, however, at least he hasn’t been punished to the extent that he will also miss out on a major tournament – something that could see his value rise if he performs to the level that we all know that he is capable of.

Rangers fans took to Twitter in response to the ban, angered at UEFA’s decision:

Rangers response isn’t a surprise, losing such an important player – who has an immaculate disciplinary record – because of his reaction to being racially abused is not something I’d have expected them to take lying down.
