£675,000-rated 26-year-old has no future at Rangers – Gerrard must get rid this summer

|

Jason Holt is set to return to Rangers after suffering an injury on loan at Fleetwood Town, but he surely has no future at Ibrox and must be axed this summer.

The Daily Record report that his loan at the English League One side has been cut short following a knee injury in action for Joey Barton’s side.

Holt, who has a market value of £675,000 according to Transfermarkt, has made 36 appearances for the Fishermen this season, helping them to a mid-table finish.

While a decent amount of first-team appearances, it’s unlikely to have done his chances of regular action at Ibrox any good heading into next season.

His contract with Rangers doesn’t expire until 2020 but he was moved out of Steven Gerrard’s squad quickly last summer and a huge amount of central midfielders are now ahead of him.

He simply doesn’t offer more than the likes of Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, Ross McCrorie, Graham Dorrans or Glen Kamara. Even the returning Greg Docherty is likely to get action before Gerrard turns to Holt.

That makes him a prime candidate to leave the club again this summer, depending on the severity of his knee injury. It would be just our luck for the player to be out for months just before a period we would be able to get him off the wage bill.
