Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has revealed that a handful of players are set to return for Sunday’s massive Old Firm clash.

No individual names were given but the squad who completed the Europa League Playoff in Yerevan is set to be bolstered for the first derby of the season at Ibrox.

For the game against Alashkert, the likes of James Tavernier, Allan McGregor, Jon McLaughlin, Calvin Bassey, Ryan Kent and Scott Wright did not make the long trip with their teammates.

It has not been confirmed, for different reasons, who has tested positive for Covid and which of those left in Glasgow were carrying niggling injuries – with the latter being something that McAllister alluded to, in the post-match press conference from Armenia.

As well as those who did not get on the plane, Rangers could also have a few other options to choose from.

Kemar Roofe and John Lundstram sat out due to European suspension and then there is Fashion Sakala, Jermain Defoe as well as new signing Juninho Bacuna who could come into the reckoning.

Despite a poor, lacklustre performance, the Ibrox club have made the Europa League groups for the fourth successive season.

That in itself is good news but the levels on the pitch must improve – regardless of mitigating circumstances that had an affect in Armenia.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the squad will be enhanced by a few returning faces – now we wait to see who makes the cut.
