Sean Goss has been fantastic since his arrival at Ibrox. Out of all the January signings, he was one of the least heralded, but he has been a stand out player over the last five weeks.
The manager has expressed a desire to keep the 22 year old beyond the end of his loan deal, but that comment was met with a fierce reaction from QPR boss Ian Holloway who has declared the midfielder will not be leaving the English side in the summer.
Still, a lot can happen between now and the end of the season. The player`s parent club lie 16th in the Championship, and there could be changes among the playing squad and the backroom staff, so we shouldn`t dismiss the possibility of signing him permanently. Here are a few reasons why we should do all we can to make the deal happen.
1. He is dictating matches
Playing as a deep lying playmaker, the Englishman has begun to dictate play for us, and despite his relative young age, he has already developed a commanding presence that reminds me of a certain Barry Ferguson.
Players in the mould of Andrea Pirlo are not exactly common, and although he isn`t anywhere near that level, the quality of his passing makes him a fantastic option to have in the squad.
2. He`s part of a flourishing partnership that shouldn`t be broken up
Our loan signing has been partnered in midfield by another January addition with Greg Docherty also thriving since his switch from Hamilton. The pair compliment each other extremely well, and it would be disappointing to see the partnership broken up if Goss returns south of the border.
While our no.27 offers the passing range and creativity, his partner provides the drive and energy which work extremely well in tandem. The speed of which an understanding has developed between the duo in the last few games has been great to see.
3. He can only improve
An excellent passer and a free kick specialist, the former Man Utd youth player already has the ability to go far in the game, but he has the potential to be even more. Quite why he played only six games for QPR during his first year at the club is beyond me. If they can`t see his promise then they should let us take him off their hands.
Of course, you have to qualify this by seeing how his form fluctuates over a longer period of time, but if he continues at this level, we should be doing everything we can to sign him up.
